When Steel Talks extends our sincere condolence to the family and friends of the multitalented Janine Charles-Farray.  We are in a state of shock. It was only yesterday you communicated with us.

....Contralto soloist, Janine Charles-Farray, swept the stage at TT’s 2018 Music Festival. Her spoils included the Marie Dupres Memorial trophy for success in the Ladies Oratoria Class, the Havelock Nelson Cup for Ladies Operatic Aria, the Dr George Nelson H Wattley Memorial Trophy for most outstanding Operatic Aria, the Soroptimists International of San Fernando trophy for Contralto Solo, and the TTMFA Oratorio trophy for most outstanding Oratorio.

“Singing and performing is a side of my personality and my life that I have left in its natural state – spontaneous, fun, and unpredictable,” said Charles-Farray of her long-standing interest in singing and performing. A long-time member of the celebrated Lydians Choir, she was trained and encouraged to perform by the revered Pat Bishop, one of TT’s legendary musical directors....

Gary “Soup”  Harrigin Condolences on the passing of Master Tuner Roland Harrigin’s brother Gary Harrigin  aka  “Soup.” He was one of the brothers who took all of Roland’s pans to Rudolph Charles to hear once completed.   Glenda Gamory Glenda Gamory (May 10th 1944 – May 9, 2019) was an exceptional Trinidadian steelband, leader. At a very young age she said to her mentor - the iconic Rudolph Charles of the famed Desperadoes Steel Orchestra ““Trail”, when I grow up - I want to be just like you. I want to lead a steelband, take it to Panorama and win. To which he replied - “G-Forde what ever you put your mind to you can do it.” “It’s great when you have good people behind you... Patron of the Arts Artistic Bursary 2023 designed to assist aspiring panists across the Caribbean and beyond

The Artistic Bursary 2023 award is designed to assist aspiring panists across the Caribbean and beyond in pursuing studies leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Performing Arts (BFA) with specialisation in Music (Steelpan) or the Advanced Pan Fellowship Program Certificate at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).  The Award  The award will provide three (3) individual grants of USD$5000 to the first prize winner, USD$3000 to the second prize winner, and USD$2000 to the third prize winner. These amounts are to assist in covering the cost of tuition, travel, accommodation and course material for their first year of study.
