..“We met this young guy Ken Philmore, and he told us we have to come to his home and ask his parents which we did. I had to promise them that we would take good care of him; I told them not to worry he would be taken care of. I give them my name, address and phone number where he would be staying, that was at my house.

“The minute he got to my house and was introduced to some of the players and members, had some refreshment, we took him down to the basement where the stage side was practicing; remember it was still June, we were astounded by what he could do on a tenor, and this went on for hours. We saw the joy, passion and love he had for the pan right off; we had to actually stop him from playing.

“By this time the basement was full. After that first night we knew that we had a gem, a star in the making, such love and passion for the pan and everyone he meet - no fake. He was very sincere through and through. He would always greet you with love, a hug and a kiss on the cheek saying “I love you,” that’s the way he lived his life - and he died with that same kind of love. May he Rest In Eternal Peace..... We love you, “Professor”.”

It may have a ways to go, being a fairly young creation, but I believe pan can progress, develop and infiltrate music of all cultures. His passion for music began his drive towards growth and development using the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago as a medium. This self-motivation further lead him to strategically place himself for positions such as section leader, chief skills officer, and music committee member within the Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra in which he was successful.   Anthony Williams Some accomplishments by Anthony Williams as listed by former North Stars player  David Maunday Scientific Anthony Williams involved in putting pan on wheels in the late 1950s.   The placement of notes on the tenor pan in the 4th and 5th formation.   The grooving of notes on pans in a spider web pattern (more notes achieved).   Placement of notes on the six bass in fourths (a virtual lower extension of the tenor pan).   Placement of notes on their double second and 3 pan cello carries similar patterns making it easy for players to migrate from one section to the other.   Tony’s quality of tuning produced a very unique tone with his early use of harmonics.   Inventor of the 4 pan (a form of cello pan).   Anthony Williams made outsize pans (larger than the standard 55 gallon drums) using sheath metal which he tuned [into] some tenor pans, cellos and bass, some of which were used on the Ivory and Steel Recordings in 1969. ...

When Steel Talks extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michael Marcano and Renegades Steel Orchestra on his passing. Champion administrator Michael Marcano  “...For it to be deemed the world’s greatest show, it must be of a certain caliber. Only the best steel orchestras in the land should be on display.     Happy Birthday to Bukka Rennie November 30 When Steel Talks (WST) extends Happy Birthday greetings to  Bukka Rennie Activist, historian, columnist and writer, widower and the father of three, Bukka Rennie left Trinidad and Tobago in 1967 to pursue studies in History and Political Science at Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) in Montreal, Canada. After two years at Sir George he was jailed and then expelled along with forty-one other Black Caribbean students and forty-nine White Canadian students after involvement in political action against racism at that institution. He has refused since then to attend any university, including The University of the West Indies, even after the option to transfer credits was offered, and accepted by others.
