Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar makes a surprise appearance on congas with the Dave Valentin Band. With Oskar Cartaya - bass, Mark Towns - guitar, Phoenix Rivera - drums, & Luke Carlos - piano. At The Jazz Bakery - LA 


Kareem's father Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr., Born in Brooklyn, Alcindor attended the Juilliard School before serving in the Army from 1941-45. A longtime member of the New York police department, Alcindor also was a jazz musician.
His grandfather Cyrus Alcindor, was from Point Fortin in southwestern Trinidad; his grandmother Venus Alcindor hailed from Grand Rivere on the country’s north coast.

The other, Carol, played tenor pan too, and the third, whose name I can't recall right now, played the Bass. It was a sort of status symbol for those guys because there were not too many bands with women playing. They were good players.
