“I think all the arts are connected. Music, art, dance, etc, are all media to express yourself and to be creative. I am privileged to be able to work within the arts. 

“As an artist I am influenced by my life as a musician, and vice versa. There was once a time when I tried to separate the two passions, but it’s just who I am. I’ve had a number of art exhibitions in London and the North East. One of these was at Wallington Hall, a National Trust property in Northumberland, when I composed a soundscape to accompany the paintings I had on display, in which I am playing flute and pan.”  

United Kingdom - From Panorama player to music educator - she has experienced all aspects of the Pan up close and personal. Performer, arranger, and now director - the steelpan instrument is in her blood. Richard Bailey November 8th When Steel Talks extends Birthday Greetings to veteran drummer Richard Bailey He was the winning Panorama drummer for Phase II Pan Groove in 1987 and 1988. Bailey shared his thoughts as follows, with When Steel Talks: “ Phase II [Pan Groove] is my home/family. As a kid I lived at 13 Hamilton Street, my family home and the birthplace of the ‘Phase’ - also Selwyn Tarradath, a founding member, is my first cousin. “My first Panorama was in 1979 (‘79 is mine) after returning to TnT [Trinidad & Tobago] for 4 months. As you know Panorama was cancelled after the first round. I didn’t play again until 1986 (Pan Rising). Scholar, educator, exceptional musician and champion Panorama arranger Beverly Griffith has passed

  When Steel Talks extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Beverly Griffith on his passing. Champion arranger Beverly Griffith Griffith was a pianist with the Clarence Curvan Orchestra when he made his mark in the steelband world after his classic arrangement of Lord Kitchener's "Mama Dis Is Mas" landed Desperadoes second place in the 1964 Panorama competition. Desperadoes returned in 1966 to take the Panorama title with his arrangement of Mighty Sparrow's "Melda." After migrating to New York, USA, in the late-1960s, Griffith returned to Trinidad in 1985, at the request of Desperadoes' leader Rudolph Charles, to team up with Robert Greenidge to lead Desperadoes to a joint share of the Panorama title with Renegades.
