Vincy Mas to return after a two-year hiatus

Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, W.I. - The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) is putting plans in place for the return of the cultural festival, Vincy Mas after a two year hiatus. 

However, the country’s vaccination rate by the end the first quarter will be a determining factor for how grand Vincy Mas 2022 will be.

“It was decided clearly that we would have carnival this year,” Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves [pictured] said as he made the announcement on WEFM’s ‘Issue at Hand’ programme on Sunday. 

Gonsalves said there was a two-hour discussion on the return of the festival at last Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting where the leadership of the CDC made a presentation “as to whether we should have a carnival this year…or what type of carnival we should have”. 

The festival was cancelled for the past two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Sidney Poitier met the Trinidad and Tobago National Steelband in 1964

Maybe it was serendipity that caused Bahamian born American actor Sidney Poitier (1927-2022) to be present at one of the band’s performances while he was visiting his daughter, who was attending the conference. He was so overwhelmed with the music that he insisted on meeting the players. As can be seen in the photo, the meeting brought great joy to Poitier (with pan sticks in hand) and all the musicians. James Clarkson   April 21st When Steel Talks extends Birthday Greetings to panist James Clarkson James Clarkson was born in Grenada on 21 April 1943 and has had a distinguished lifelong career in music with early exposure at the age of 12. He later joined the band of the Royal Grenada Police Force, appeared on stage with his father’s band, and by 17 was a member of the band of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force as lead arranger and first trumpet player. By 23 years of age, he was the Director of Music of the band of the Royal Grenada Police Force, and soon became the arranger for the very successful Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra , a post he still holds today.
