Panorama Skills on the Home Front? NO, MEMORIAL DAY 2020

Global - ....Grandfather was flown back to Venezuela, and later Trinidad, where they named Gonzales, Belmont, after him. Rudolph Charles [“Charlo”] insisted that I was born on the Laventille Hill. Little did he know I was born in Gonzales, a ritual for all our families. Charlo must have meant conceived, not born.

Anyway, in Vietnam, I was in the trenches, too — defensive perimeters made up of wire, mines, machine guns, sandbags and bunkers. I spoke to Grandfather one night when my company was expecting the Viet Cong (VC) to roll in. These night devils would disrupt your sleep in a minute. So I meditated with him as if he were prayers sent by the Almighty. I felt relieved.

On the battlefield, we played a game of survival, young uninformed Trini-American soldiers.

Here is an exclusive look at the TT$14 million panyard for the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra which has been homeless for several years, but which was gifted this piece of real estate at 25 Nelson Street in Port of Spain. James Clarkson   April 21st When Steel Talks extends Birthday Greetings to panist James Clarkson James Clarkson was born in Grenada on 21 April 1943 and has had a distinguished lifelong career in music with early exposure at the age of 12. He later joined the band of the Royal Grenada Police Force, appeared on stage with his father’s band, and by 17 was a member of the band of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force as lead arranger and first trumpet player. By 23 years of age, he was the Director of Music of the band of the Royal Grenada Police Force, and soon became the arranger for the very successful Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra , a post he still holds today. The Officers and Ranks of the Royal, Grenada Police Force (R.G.P.F.) take this opportunity to thank Commissioner James Clarkson OBE, QPM, Lmus, F. “Hear, O Lord” - The Goretti Group and Dixieland Steel Orchestra

  Maria Alonzo, a teacher at Holy Name, was the proud creator of this group. She and her students started the group as means of an extracurricular activity and expose the girls to charity works. Along with the visiting hospitals and the sick, the girls came together and composed their own music and songs such as ‘Sing out my Soul’, ‘Here O Lord’ and many other songs which are still sung today. Maria Goretti is the patron saint of youth that gave this wonderful group its name. After 49 years, the group flourished and became a successful charity group that spreads Maria Alonzo’s passion and love all around Trinidad. Unfortunately, Maria died August 2nd. Although it is an emotional time, the Goretti members will always remember the motto she taught them: ‘If I can help somebody with a word or song then my living shall not be in vain.’ Listen
