Lin Tao is a gifted pianist, performing artist, percussion instructor and music educator. And as fate would have it - she is now one of the persons who first performed on and introduced the steelpan to the world-famous and prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music - sometimes known as the “the cradle of musicians.”  In an exclusive interview with When Steel Talks, performing artist Lin Tao shares her love for the steelpan instrument and expectations for the future with the art form and more.

Better known as ‘Maubert the Pan Man’ Aubrey ‘Boss’ Bryan came from Guyana in 1964 and settled in the UK. During his first few months in the UK he worked for Phillips Radio/TV Ltd in Croydon where he experimented with new techniques for heat-treating pans. In the mid 1970s he was invited with Sterling Betancourt OBE to tune some pans for the firm of A Major of Purley Way, which was intending to mass-produce the instruments. They soon realised there was a fault in the preparation of the material. As they could not get the desired tones, the venture never materialised. In 1979, he toured Germany with the British Airways Groovers Steel Orchestra as player and tuner and was invited to produce a complete set of instruments for a high school in West Berlin. This was the first of many such commissions. Gary “Soup”  Harrigin Condolences on the passing of Master Tuner Roland Harrigin’s brother Gary Harrigin  aka  “Soup.” He was one of the brothers who took all of Roland’s pans to Rudolph Charles to hear once completed.   Glenda Gamory Glenda Gamory (May 10th 1944 – May 9, 2019) was an exceptional Trinidadian steelband, leader. At a very young age she said to her mentor - the iconic Rudolph Charles of the famed Desperadoes Steel Orchestra ““Trail”, when I grow up - I want to be just like you.
