That recording was done on the Queen's Park savannah stage, however the LP recording was done by Caribbean Sound Studios (Joe Rodrigues and Henry De Freitas) at the yard of a member in Rosalino street Woodbrook.

I remember being mesmerized on Jouvert morning by Green Corner either 1970 or 71 listening to CIBC Starlift belt out Penny Lane. This is one for the ages.

This Holman arrangement brings back such good memories. Everyone who heard it back then knew that it would be a classic. Thank you Ray Holman and Starlift for this masterpiece. It still sounds great.

This recalls the experience of playing "West Side Story" mas with Starlift, on Carnival Monday, I think, in 1963, when the performance of "I Feel Pretty" sent us teenagers wild.

Hi Samuel,
The Rock it with Pan album was done by Phase II. Boogsie composed the tune, I did the lyrics. Penny Lane was recorded on a CIBC Starlift album. This is one of the classic arrangements of a pop tune.

An all-time classic and living proof the good music has international appeal. The Beatles could never have imagined that one of their more conservative creations (Penny Lane), could be reconstituted in an obscure place (Trinbago) by college boys with a euphonic ear...to produce this masterpiece.
Now! if you could find Starlift's version of George Gershwin's "Bess you is my woman now"..I will leave allyuh in my will !

Can't beat a Ray Holman arrangement. I first heard Starlift play this arrangement J'ourvert morning 1969. The band was sponsored by C.I.B.C. the bank where I was employed at the time.

I believe this was also recorded on vinyl with other notable renditions on pan, during the early seventies, on an LP called Rocket (or Rock It) with Pan. Does anyone know where this LP is available for sale?

Oh the memories!  They always come when I hear this, and so do the tears for those sweet sweet bittersweet days  in Trini. I followed Starlift, knew most of the guys, pushed pan for them sometimes, jumped with them most times, played mas with them at least once. I miss those guys, and those days. This is one of my favorites, an arrangement I know as well as I know my name. Thanks Starlift.
