Much respected composer, arranger and musician Godwin Bowen passed July 16, 2021. see more

For each of those nine (9) original pieces, Bowen composed the song and the lyrics and also arranged both the calypso demo version and the Steelband Panorama version. The titles of the songs and the lyrics show an arranger and composer who had taken the time to observe and understand the Panorama tradition and the essence of its dynamic, in order to do justice to it in his music.

Pamberi is grateful for the opportunity that we had to partner with such a gifted and thoughtful musician....Godwin you did good, in fact you did better than good, and students of the steelband, its music and the Panorama tradition owe you a debt of gratitude.   Happy Birthday to Edwin Ayoung  March 19th When Steel Talks extends Birthday Greetings to composer and performing artist “Crazy” - Edwin Ayoung  Edwin Ayoung or “Crazy” - born Edwin Ayoung in 1944, on Maraval Road in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad of a Venezuelan mother and Trinidadian father of Chinese descent, was - in his youth - as skilled and competitive in his country’s national pastime of cricket, as he has been now for years as a world-travelled musician, performing artist and composer. Though dubbed “The Loveable Lunatic of Soca,” Ayoung has time and again not been given his due in his native land, yet remains one of the most commercially successful artists on the international soca scene. An experimentalist, he pioneered the unique musical genre known as Parang Soca and played a leading role in promoting Chutney Soca. Ralph Davis Another episode occurred when he played for the queen of England on her visit to Trinidad and Tobago at the then-Governor-General’s house. He remembers her standing right over his pan. But what she did not know, was that the shoes he was wearing, had no soles... For he could not afford shoes. Devon Cumberbatch “I would love for the instrument to be as mainstream as the piano, guitar or violin. It may have a ways to go, being a fairly young creation, but I believe pan can progress, develop and infiltrate music of all cultures. I would love to see it as an instrument for all peoples, and universally accepted.
