Grenada, W.I. - He is a first-time national champion steelband Panorama arranger; youthful, yet at the age of thirty-one a “young” veteran in his craft of musicianship, with a history of more than twenty years of involvement with the steelband art form. Extremely talented, humble and quiet until the spirit of the music takes over, Cordel Byam, musical director of Grenada’s New Dimension Steel Orchestra is transformed on stage as the band delivers his musical masterpieces to appreciative audiences. The Artistic Bursary 2023 award is designed to assist aspiring panists across the Caribbean and beyond in pursuing studies leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Performing Arts (BFA) with specialisation in Music (Steelpan) or the Advanced Pan Fellowship Program Certificate at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).  The Award  The award will provide three (3) individual grants of USD$5000 to the first prize winner, USD$3000 to the second prize winner, and USD$2000 to the third prize winner. These amounts are to assist in covering the cost of tuition, travel, accommodation and course material for their first year of study.

  Glenda Gamory Glenda Gamory (May 10th 1944 – May 9, 2019) was an exceptional Trinidadian steelband, leader. At a very young age she said to her mentor - the iconic Rudolph Charles of the famed Desperadoes Steel Orchestra ““Trail”, when I grow up - I want to be just like you. I want to lead a steelband, take it to Panorama and win. To which he replied - “G-Forde what ever you put your mind to you can do it.” “It’s great when you have good people behind you...
