Newsday - Editorial  THE SUGGESTION made by Pan Trinbago president Beverly Ramsey-Moore that the children's Carnival should be moved to make way for holding only the Panorama competition at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Carnival Saturday was tactless and surprising. The National Carnival Commission (NCC) and the organisers of the festival should be open to change. Anything that can improve the festival going forward should be embraced, not resisted. Without advancements, our Carnival, which is only now getting back on its feet after the interregnum of the pandemic, will be left behind. But change should not be at the sacrifice of one key element over the other. While Ms Ramsey-Moore was right on Saturday to be frustrated by the late start of the Panorama final, the blame for this should not be placed on the Junior Parade of Bands. She attributed this to a “security sweep” that had to be done of the venue after the parade. See  more

Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell along with President of Pan Trinbago, Beverly Ramsey-Moore distributed grant funding for 153 unsponsored Steelbands, 8 cultural organisations, and remittances to Steelpan players participating in Panorama for Carnival 2023 during a small ceremony at the VIP Lounge, Queen’s Park Savannah on February 16, 2023. Unsponsored Steelbands For Carnival 2023, Cabinet has approved grants payable in the sum of $15,000.00 per band for unsponsored Conventional Bands and $7,500 per band in support of unsponsored Single Pan Bands. These grants were made available to a total of 94 Conventional bands and 59 Single Pan Bands – in the amount of $1,852,500.00. Steelpan Player Remittances Cabinet has also approved remittances to be paid to each Steelpan player participating in the Panorama 2023 competition in the amount of $500 per player. Rest in Everlasting Peace Michael Franco, Captain of PROMAN Starlift Steel Orchestra 2021-2023 It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you that our beloved Captain, Michael Franco passed away this afternoon. Mr. Franco was fiercely proud of you and proud of Starlift. Even as he courageously struggled with his health, his foremost thoughts were with the band and with you.
